HKFC Hockey – More than a game
2016 marks the beginning of a new phase in the HKFC Hockey Section’s development. With a newly created Director of Hockey role and the inclusion of further quality coaches and players we can expect yet another step up in the professional approach to the game across the Senior Section.
Both our Men’s and Ladies’ A Teams are looking strong on paper and the goal this season will be for both to win their respective leagues… a rare and difficult feat but we’re up for the challenge! Across the balance of the Senior Section we’ll be looking for unified improvements from all teams and some will also be chasing their own League silverware.
The Junior Section continues to thrive under the constantly evolving coaching programme we have in place. The end of season Youth Tour to Perth was a huge success and is on the calendar again for the coming season, along with exciting additions designed to enhance the quality of player development and the creation of life-long hockey players.
From the Mini’s who are just starting out to the youth players now playing senior hockey, the Junior Player Pathway is a rich and rewarding aspect of the Hockey Section. There will be a continued focus to ensure it becomes more visibly connected to the Senior Player Pathway. Expect to see juniors at senior games cheering on their Club team heroes, and seniors at junior training sessions and tournaments ensuring support and ‘pearls of wisdom’ are passed to the next generation.
There will also be plenty happening off the pitch this season to ensure the entire Section celebrates and continues to develop a number of its fine traditions. It’ll be 55 years and 45 years respectively since the HKFC Men’s and Women’s Hockey Clubs established themselves. With a collective 100 years of hockey behind us there’s no better excuse to celebrate being a HKFC Hockey player. As if it couldn’t get any better, the Rio Olympics are about to get underway also and with it a festival of hockey will be showcased right in time for the new season. It therefore won’t be hard to motivate the Section, age 6 or 66, to unite on and off the pitch in the coming weeks. After all, hockey is MORE THAN A GAME at HKFC.
